The different generations have very different values, perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs because each generation grew up during a very different set of circumstances.

The only generation most people really understand is their own generation.

If you are interacting with someone from a different generation, you will likely automatically try to build a relationship with them according to your own generation’s unconscious biases, preferences, and  “ways of doing things”.  This can cause the prospect from a different generation to feel that the you cannot relate to them and their needs.

If you are interacting with individuals from different generations, it is important for you to have solid cross-generational human relations skills so that you are seen by them as being respectful of their generation’s  values, beliefs, viewpoints, and other aspects of their generation’s DNA. In net, you are able to align yourself to their “Generational Comfort Zone”.
